Week of November 18, 2019

Week of November 11, 2019

Students are either wrapping up role play from last week's lessons or they are moving into the second lesson for "Common Conversational Phrases" By the end of the week, students should have completed a role play and begun studying a second set of notes for conversational Spanish. Students should anticipate a quiz by the end of this week or the start of the next.

Week of November 4, 2019

Students are studying common conversational phrases that allow them to verify, confirm, and inquire about information. Students will also complete an assessment of learning on weather, seasons, discussion on travel plans using the verb "to go", and greetings. Students will also demonstrate mastery of vocabulary/grammar learned through successful role play.

Week of October 28, 2019

Students are learning "Saludos" (Greetings) this week, and how to incorporate different greetings into their role playing. Students will demonstrate mastery with successful role play with a partner. Students should be reviewing Adonde vas? as well as all other material in anticipation of a final exam at the end of the semester. There will be a test next Monday, November 4, 2019.

Week of October 22, 2019

Students are learning to ask and answer the question Adonde vas (where are you going?). They will do a role play this week to demonstrate mastery of vocabulary and phrases. Please see our new flashcards at https://quizlet.com/_7cawtw. Next week the HW task sheet will be due (October 28, 7th and 8th grade only). There are four tasks for this assignment. Please make sure your child is working on that assignment. 

Week of October 15, 2019

Students are working on publishing Spanish calendars and practicing conversational Spanish with role play. Students will learn elements of stage acting, directing, seasons, and weather conditions. Students will have a set of guided notes for stage acting, a calendar publishing application, and/or seasons/weather conditions (if they missed it on previous week).

Week of October 7, 2019

This week students are taking a test on Calendar, Numbers, and Classroom Phrases. This is a three day week in lieu of Fall Break.

Week of September 30, 2019

This week and last Friday students completed an assessment (quiz) on numbers, calendar, and vowels. Grades are going in for the upcoming progress reports. A test is planned for next week. Students should utilize quizlet.com "dpamiddlespanish" flashcard sets for days of week and months of the year to study. We are focusing on "El Calendario" with the aim of students creating and publishing a usable Spanish calendar. 

 

Week of September 23, 2019

This week students are turning in past due homework (See week of September 9 "task packet") in addition to completing a Hispanic Heritage scavenger hunt assignment where they must look for facts posted around the middle school hall in order to answer questions. The extra credit assignment is for them to draw a picture or create an image that represents one of those facts. Additionally, students need to study their quizlet flashcards on "Dias de la Semana" and "Meses del Ano". They will also need to know relevant conversation and be able to utilize different phrases and vocabulary in order to answer questions about the date, numbers, counting, calendar, etc (Oral assessment coming soon!). We are focusing on speaking and listening.

Week of September 16, 2019

In lieu of teacher's absence on Friday, students are still presenting their numbers projects. Homework on Dias de la Semana/Meses del Ano are due this week; for some classes Monday, for others, on Wednesday. Students will also receive a test on Friday of this week. The test will be cumulative everything taught since the beginning of school. That includes classroom rules and procedures/expectations, Spanish vowels, alphabet, and some numbers. 

 

Week of September 9, 2019

Students are working on their numbers projects and preparing to present to the class starting Wednesday. Students will be able to demonstrate mastery of number fluency with accuracy in mental math verbal expression in the target language. On Monday students are introduced to months of the year and days of the week. Students should be able to ask and answer about the date, what day of the week it is, and date of birth.  On Tuesday or Wednesday they will receive a task packet that will be due on Monday, 9/16/19. Students should be studying for a summative assessment given on the week of September 16.

Week of September 2, 2019

Students are working on their numbers 1-1000. In groups of 4 or 5, they will prepare and present a lesson on specific number set on an assigned day.Please see the Spanish Numbers Project Rubric  Also, students need to be studying for an upcoming test (Week of September 16). Test will be cumulative of all things reviewed and learned in Spanish since the beginning of the semester.

Week of August 26:

Students will continue to work on their "Paz" posters and begin hanging them on the wall as the seminal expression of a "Paz" campaign. Posters are recorded as a quiz grade. Students are continuing to work on alphabet and numbers. Students will begin a group project which will require them to teach a subset of numbers to the class. Presentation dates vary. Students will work on their assignments in class and during their "Power Hours" as time permits. Students should expect a quiz this week and should be using the Spanish reference sheets handed out last week. Also, extra credit deadline is August 31. Students should send a video of them speaking Spanish covered in class to kfisher@dekalbprepacademy.org.

Week of August 19:

Students are continuing to work on their "Paz" posters in their groups (7th grade is individual). This will be for a quiz grade. All classes with the exception of 7th grade will use class time to complete. Students are completing diagnostic tests this week, a folder check on Monday, and a Spanish Vowels and Classroom Expectations Quiz. Students will be reviewing alphabet and numbers this week. If your child received a 0% for their folder check, they may receive a 100% if they bring it in by Friday 8/23/19.
